A major credit card company is hit with a serious fine and ordered to repay money to its customers. If you have a Discover Card you could be getting money coming back to you.
Federal banking regulators say that Discover pressured its credit card customers to buy pricey add-ons like payment protection and credit card monitoring.
According to the FDIC and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Discover's call center actually signed people up without telling them and deliberately misled their own customers into thinking these add-on services were free.
Discover card has to pay a $14 million fine and refund $200 million to about 3.5 million customers. In the agreement with the Feds, Discover card neither admitted nor denied the allegations, but they agreed to pay up.
If you are a Discover customer, you should get something from them letting them know if you are eligible for a refund of some sort.
