Seeing a stray dog wandering the streets -- that's not surprising. But a stray giant tortoise?
You can see why this brought traffic to a standstill in central Phoenix.
The big guy was wandering in the area of 3rd Avenue and Indian School Thursday evening, and he caused a big commotion.
Bystanders tried to keep him from getting hit by a car, but it wasn't easy.
"All the cars were stopping, there were several people. I herded him into the yard so to keep him from roaming all over, we put him in my truck," said Tony Masterangelo. "He's over a hundred pounds, I'm certain he's a pretty good age."
"We don't know what happened, we think he may be abandoned so we are concerned about him."
The Herpetological Society took over care of the reptile and Friday, he was reunited with his owners.
