Marvin Bryan and Oraine Archer
Police are investigating a shooting near Litchfield and Greenway Roads.
Authorities say this all started as a fight between two men in the house and now they're facing criminal charges for their actions.
During the investigation, police learned that Marvin Bryan and Oraine Archer, who are friends and neighbors, were arguing about a monetary debt.
During the argument, one of the men assaulted the other with a hatchet. In turn, the hatchet attack victim, drew a gun and fired a shot at the attacker.
In a statement, Surprise Police Sgt. Bert Anzini said, "The man with the hatchet fled into the street toward his residence as the other man continued to fire at him. The 31-year-old sister of the man with the hatchet was outside of their residence when a bullet that was being fired at the fleeing man struck her in her upper leg."
The woman was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Anzini says the gunman was also hospitalized from the injuries he received during the hatchet attack.
Bryan, 29, was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail. He faces aggravated assault charges.
Archer, 29, was also arrested and booked into the 4th Avenue Jail after his release from the hospital. He faces aggravated assault and reckless discharge of a firearm charges.
