Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who made a national name for himself by going after public employee unions last year, posted a message on Twitter calling for the return of the NFL's locked-out unionized officials after a disputed call led to a Seattle Seahawks 14-12 victory over the Packers on Monday night.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (KMSP) -
Packer fans descended on Green Bay on Tuesday to protest the play that everyone is talking about.
Even President Barack Obama said there was a problem with the late-game call that lead to Monday night's loss in Seattle, and furious fans gathered outside Lambeau Field to picket that final play.
The Packers were leading 12-7 with eight seconds left on the clock when Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson lobbed a pass to the corner of the end zone. Though the Packers' M.D. Jennings appeared to gain control of the ball, Seahawks receiver Golden Tate was able to get his arm behind the ball as the two hit the ground.
While the ball is in the air, Tate can be seen shoving Green Bay cornerback Sam Shields to the ground, which should have been a penalty for offensive pass interference. That penalty would have ended the game.
Instead, the refs ruled it a touchdown and a win for the Seahawks.
At this point, it would be an understatement to say that players, coaches and fans are frustrated with the fill-in referees amid an NFL labor dispute with the regular refs.
Still, the NFL Officiating Department reviewed the video on Tuesday and supported the decision not to overturn the on-field ruling after the instant-replay review. The result of the game is final.
