Another Block E tenant has closed-up shop in downtown Minneapolis. The AMC Theater showed its final movie Sunday night.
Only four businesses remain at the failed Block E complex: Kieran's Irish Pub, Jimmy John's, Starbucks and the Shout House piano bar.
"I'm not saying it's a great looking building, but it's not terrible," said Lee Holcomb at Gluek's Restaurant and Bar across the street. "I don't know why it didn't work at all."
The new owners of Block E wanted to transform the area into a downtown casino, but never got the necessary political support. Instead, it sounds like developers will convert Block E into office space.
"Gameworks, Applebee's, this place was full of everything," said Aaron Smith, who was at the last Block E movie on Sunday. "I remember seeing the blueprints, all the future plans. It's kind of sad."
AMC Theaters wanted to stay in Block E, even going to court to extend the lease. But Block E's new owners denied it, indicating they have plans for a massive facelift to the entertainment center.
