CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Chicago man was ordered held on $275,000 bond Friday after police say he stole an iPhone at gunpoint at a South Side Metra station, but was captured when officers tracked the device.

Dashawn Sharp, 18, of Chicago, was charged with one count of armed robbery, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.

Sharp and another person approached a person in the stairwell of the Metra station near South Halsted and West 87th streets on Sept. 11, pressed a gun into the victim's chest and ordered him to empty his pocket, a release from the state's attorney's office said.

The pair took his wallet, iPhone and keys before running away.

The victim notified police, who traced the stolen iPhone to a nearby wireless store, where the clerk said the two tried to sell it to him but left when they were unable to unlock the device, the release said.

Police then identified Sharp from the store's surveillance video and took him into custody, the state's attorney's office said. The victim positively identified him as one of the robbers.

On Friday, Sharp was ordered held on a $275,000 bond and a preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 26.
