13-year-old boy dies following semi vs. bicycle crash on Hwy 15
Family members confirm the 13-year-old boy who was critically injured when he crossed in front of a semi-trailer while riding his bicycle with friends has died from his injuries.
The Minnesota State Patrol said Jacob Weber, of Winthrop, was riding his bicycle with friends in the afternoon when he was struck on Highway 15 in Sibley County.
"Our son, brother and friend was injured while riding his bicycle on Saturday, September 15. He was doing what he loved to do; but sadly, in spite of all efforts to save him, Jacob did not survive his injuries," the family said in a statement. "With heavy hearts and many tears, we said goodbye to him this afternoon."
Weber was flown to the Hennepin County Medical Center after the crash; although he could not be saved, his family said Jacob donated his organs so that others might live in a final gesture of giving.
"We are so grateful that at least something good can come of our loss," the statement continued. "How precious life can leave so quickly is beyond our comprehension, so we rely on -- and thank everyone -- for their prayers and support. We find comfort in knowing Jacob is with his Savior in Heaven."
