Ad campaign urges parents to set healthy example

Posted: Updated:

As the obesity rate continues to climb, many organizations are focusing on the epidemic's youngest victims. Now, Blue Cross Blue Shield is debuting an ad campaign urging parents to set a healthy example to fight childhood obesity.

FOX 9 News spoke with Zachary Meyer, vice president of wellness and prevention, about the ad campaign.

Watch the video for more information.

Studies show that nearly two thirds of Minnesotans are either overweight or obese, and Meyer said unhealthy food choices and a lack of physical activity are largely to blame.

Another astounding statistic came out recently saying that, for the first time in history, the life expectancy for children may be shorter than their parents.

Anyone looking for tools to help them make healthier choices -- including grocery lists and activity tips -- can find a kit of resources online at BlueCrossMN.com.
