Police are investigating a double-shooting that left a man and woman dead in Robbinsdale.
Officials confirmed that the woman's 5-year-old son discovered the bodies in the home on the 3900 block of Xenia Avenue on Friday morning.
"That's really messed up. I wish that little boy wouldn't have to find his mom laying on the ground like that, 'cause I know if I saw my mom on the ground like that, I don't know how I'd feel," neighbor Kody Hollenbeck told FOX 9 News. "It'd probably mess up my whole life."
The boy went to his next-door neighbor's home and told the woman that his mother wasn't moving. She then went to check and found the woman and a man had been shot to death. A handgun was found nearby.
The boy is now staying with his grandmother.
Investigators are waiting for autopsy results to determine whether the deaths were a murder-suicide or a double murder, but police say the public is not in danger.
Brendon Gearty told FOX 9 News he knew the boy's mother, and he said she had recently gotten out of an abusive relationship and had urged neighbors to call police right away if her ex-boyfriend showed up.
"She said she was very fearful of him, and he's the type of guy who would kill someone," Gearty said. "She was afraid to get a restraining order because she was sure he'd retaliate."
