PONTIAC, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson was released from McLaren Oakland Hospital on Friday.

Patterson had been hospitalized for five weeks after sustaining multiple injuries when the Chrysler 300 in which he was a passenger was involved in an accident with another vehicle on August 10 in Auburn Hills.  Both he and his driver, James Cram, were hurt.

The county says Patterson will receive daily briefings as he continues his physical rehabilitation.

"I've made great progress under the outstanding care of the staff at McLaren Oakland Hospital," Patterson said in a statement.  "I look forward to continuing the healing process so that I can return to the Executive Office Building soon."

The county tells us Cram remains in the hospital.  It is unclear at this time when he may be released.
