BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (KMSP) -
There's new life today for the old Brookdale shopping mall in Brooklyn Center, where Wal-Mart is celebrating a grand opening.
The world's largest retailer is hoping to give its sales and the city of Brooklyn Center a boost with its brand new store. It's the first big store to open in the old Brookdale mall, which would have been 50 years old this year.
While some cities are fighting to keep Wal-Mart out, Brooklyn Center's mayor welcomes the store and says it's just the beginning of the city's re-development effort.
The new 24-hour Shingle Creek Crossing store will employ about 300 people.
