CTA offers free rides to CPS students during strike

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The Chicago Transit Authority announced Monday that it will provide free rides to Chicago Public School students during the strike.

The free rides on CTA buses and trains -- which will be offered on weekdays between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. -- are intended for students traveling to and from the 144 "Children First" site locations as well as other sites, such as parks and libraries, according to a CTA press release.

To receive free rides, students must show their CPS ID cards, reduced fare cards or other IDs and CTA employees will confirm their ages, the release said.

The free ride hours, which match the usual reduced-fare hours for CPS students, will continue until classes resume, according to the release.
