HASTINGS, Minn. (KMSP) -
A 16-year-old Hastings High School student was killed in a two-car, head-on crash Thursday night on a gravel road in Marshan Township.
The Dakota County sheriff's office says Madeline Rose Sake was driving north on Lewiston Blvd. around 7:50 p.m. when her 2003 Kia collided with a pickup truck at the crest of a hill.
Sake was taken by helicopter to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, but died hours later.
The driver of the pickup was identified as 18-year-old Blake Beissel of Hastings. His passengers were 18-year-old Derek Niebur and 17-year-old Mariah Kay Nelson. All three were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates the hill crest may have contributed to the head-on crash. The Minnesota State Patrol and Dakota County sheriff's office are continuing to investigate the cause and circumstances of the accident.
There will be a moment of silence in memory of Maddy Sake at Friday night's Woodbury-Hastings football game at Hastings High School.
