Some game-day staples of football fans everywhere could cost a pretty penny this season as food prices continue to rise amid a drought that has impacted much of the nation.
Depending on who you talk to, the price increase could come in the form of extra nickels and dimes -- but the price of some fan favorites could double.
For many fans, sitting down with some snacks is almost as important as the score. Everyone has their own personal preference, but nachos, chicken wings and chips are solid standards of sports fans nationwide -- and those could be the biggest budget busters.
Most businesses buy their chicken wings, corn chips and nachos through a contract with a fixed price. When that contract is up, chances are the prices will be as well. A good way to gauge when those prices may climb is when the cost of eggs goes up.
Still, an agriculture expert at the University of Minnesota told FOX 9 News that forecasted price hikes don't always come true because people make adjustments to their diets and restaurants often opt to adjust portions to keep prices the same.
