DETROIT (AP) -

Detroit Public Schools emergency manager Roy Roberts went on a series of appearances, including one a FOX 2, to mark the opening of classes in Michigan's largest school district.

Roberts visited three of the system's Detroit Rising College Prep Self-Governing Schools on Tuesday.

Before those stops, Roberts joined FOX 2 News Morning to talk about the progress of DPS and what parents can look forward to this year. Click the video player to watch his full interview.

Also Tuesday, a group of ministers' wives and widows from Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church greeted students at Bunche Elementary School.

The district says it's part of the women's long-term pledge to support and partnership with the district.
