DNC unofficially kicks off with Carolina Fest

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

There's a lot of entertainment.  One band after another took the stage.  There's a place of kids to play and thousands of people just strolling around in the downtown area -- a few blocks from the convention site.

I'm not exactly sure what this is, but we are sure what all of this is.  It is Carolina Fest, a huge free party Charlotte is throwing for anybody and everybody and we are finding a little bit of everything here -- including opinions on the President.

Most people we talked to believe he's done a good job.

"You know, he walked into a difficult time when he was elected.  Anybody who was elected at that time was walking into a big task to undertake," said Charlotte resident Mike McCutchan.

The button business is brisk in front of the Convention Center, but how can President Obama win re-election with an 8.3 percent unemployment rate?

"I think it is unfortunate internally and nationally for many complex reasons..we have a high rate..I think some of the steps he has taken have made things better," said Linda Greenstein, who supports the President.

The President will have a chance to make his case at this convention.
