Hurricane Isaac reached the Louisiana coast at about 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, bringing a 12 feet of storm surge along. FOX 9 News spoke with correspondent Nicole Collins from New Orleans.

Gusts of wind visibly pushed Collins as she described the beginnings of a hurricane that is expected to get worse throughout the night.
New Orleans Mayor, Mitch Landrieu, did not make evacuations mandatory for Isaac and as Collins explains to FOX 9, people were out on the streets of downtown New Orleans tonight braving the elements.
