EDINA, Minn. (KMSP) -

The city of Edina is mourning the loss of a 25-year veteran of its police force.

Sgt. Steve Stroh died shortly after midnight this past Saturday, August 25 after a long fight with cancer. According to his obituary, police work was his true calling, and he enjoyed and continued to work throughout his illness, up to the week before his death.

"I did not have the opportunity to work with Steve for very long, but I knew him and of his struggle," city manager Scott Neal posted in a blog entry. "The Police Department meant a lot to Steve. It was an important part of his identity. He leaves behind many friends and coworkers here who will miss him dearly."

Sgt. Stroh is survived by wife Caroline and daughter Shannon, as well as his parents, siblings and many more family members.
