APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (KMSP) -
If you like dolphins (and who doesn't?), you have until Sept. 9 to get to the Minnesota Zoo to wish Atlantic bottlenose dolphins Allie and Semo a final farewell.
The dolphins are moving to other accredited aquatic facilities to allow for major renovations to the Minnesota Zoo's 15-year-old Discovery Bay exhibit. The zoo said its dolphin-less future is due in part to a low availability of dolphins as well as other development priorities.
The zoo's current dolphin training sessions will continue through Aug. 31. From Sept. 1-9, the zoo will host a "dolphin open house" where guests can view Allie and Semo in a more informal setting.
During the open house, guests can take a picture with the dolphins and sign a giant going-away card.
