Man hit, killed crossing train tracks in Meeker County

In Meeker County, a train hit and killed a 21-year-old man as he was crossing the tracks early Saturday morning.

The Minnesota State Patrol says Nicholas Phillip of Eden Valley was walking on the south side of the train tracks when the Canadian pacific train struck him.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Canadian pacific says the crew did everything they could to avoid hitting Phillip, but they simply didn't have enough time to stop the train.
