Parking in Uptown is crazy, impossible, ludicrous – you name it. But it's definitely not easy or frequently-available, as any resident could tell you.
Increased development of the Uptown area has brought even more visitors to that part of Minneapolis, meaning more cars looking for parking spaces, putting an even tighter pinch on parking for residents without off-street options.
That's why the city of Minneapolis is turning three more Uptown streets to permit-only.
Girard Avenue South, from 31st Street to 32nd Street
There will be permit-only parking on both sides of the street from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. throughout the week.
West 31st Street, from Girard Avenue South to Fremont Avenue South
There will be permit-only parking on the south side of the street from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. throughout the week.
Knox Avenue South, from Lake Street to 31st Street
There will be permit-only parking on both sides of the street from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the week.
These parking restrictions go into effect on August 27. Residents on those streets who need a place to park can apply for a permit from the city. Any vehicle parked on these streets without a permit during the critical parking hours will be subject to a ticket and tow.
