PHOENIX (AP) - 1 of 3 suspects accused of killing a south Phoenix man in 2010 has been sentenced to nearly 35 years in prison.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 21-year-old Matthew Moreno was sentenced Tuesday to a 22-year prison term for second-degree murder and 12½ years for arson. A judge ordered that both aggravated sentences run consecutively.
Moreno pleaded guilty in the case three months ago.
He and two other men were arrested in May 2010 on suspicion of first-degree murder, arson, kidnapping and burglary.
Authorities say the men beat and stabbed the victim, slit his throat and then set his house on fire.
They say the victim was killed because he allegedly was having an affair with the mother of 1 of the suspects.
