NELSON TOWNSHIP, Minn. (KMSP) -
Minnesota Sen. Mike Parry went on the attack Monday night at a fundraiser hosted by Brown County Republicans, calling Gov. Mark Dayton the "most liberal governor in the United States" and saying he's as "scary" as President Obama.
The two-term senator spent several minutes criticizing Gov. Dayton on veterans' benefits and daycare unionization, but made the most noise when he essentially called the governor a pill-popper.
"The most liberal governor in the United States," Parry said. "When you sit across from him and you watch him pop 15 to 16 pills while you're having a meeting, it's scary. We all know how scary Obama is. He is at the same level."
Parry's remarks were posted to YouTube by The Journal of New Ulm. They came in the context of a rallying cry for Republican control of the state legislature to limit the governor's power.
Parry (R-Waseca) is challenging the 1st District seat held by Rep. Tim Walz.
Allen Quist, the 1st District opponent, criticized Parry for not focusing the essential issues related to their congressional constituency.
