Bob Sirott's One More Thing about the Olympics

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing about the Olympics. Even if you're not a non-stop Olympics viewer you have to get a kick out of the scene at some bars decorated with American flags.

There's something wonderfully patriotic about people watching the games on TV with others - cheering on the USA - in a public setting. It reminds me of being in European countries during the World Cup.

I think more people have been out jogging lately, and they seem to be running with better form. You can't watch the Olympics without feeling guilty about sitting on the couch snacking on chips and dip. There's nothing like the best athletes in the world to make you feel overweight and out of shape.

About those gold medalists: ever since 1912 they've been getting gypped. The Olympic Committee stopped making solid gold medals back then because gold was too expensive.

Imagine what it would cost now! The current medal is actually mostly silver and just coated with gold plating. Not that any of these winners are headed to the pawn shop.

Wouldn't it have been great if some time during the swimming competition NBC would have cutaway to the old Saturday Night Live synchronized swimming bit?

Martin Short and Harry Shearer from 1985. Still funny.
