BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -
My showing at Bears practice didn't draw the attention the Commish did but Robbie Gould stopped his cart to sit and chat (are you impressed?).
I spent the morning talking to Brandon Marshall who will be my halftime feature during the Bears-Broncos game, Thursday, August 9 on FOX Chicago.
If Marshall isn't the best interview on the team, he's the second best behind Mike Tice. The wide receiver puts great thought into all his answers and genuinely acts as though he cares. I won't give away "the interview" but I asked him questions such as, "with Calvin Johnson and Greg Jennings in the NFC North Division, are you the best wide receiver in the division?" and "what's been the most important aspect you've learned about being a Chicago Bear?"
I also interviewed Jay Cutler and wide receivers coach Darryl Drake who were both informative and engaging.
I spent some time talking with Brian Urlacher who was wearing the floppy hat but no pads meaning he sat out Wednesday's practice. Apparently, his knee is a little sore but should be okay for Thursday's practice before Family Fest Friday at Soldier Field.
Tight end Matt Spaeth and I chatted as well, in between working on his blocking. Spaeth told me he spent the offseason and summer working out at home back in Minnesota with Larry Fitzgerald's Muscle and Fitness Strength Team.
Matt said about 30 NFL players work out together in the program, which really pushes the group to get the results they're looking for. If you've never met Matt Spaeth, you're missing out. He's one of the "good guys" in the NFL.
The crowds at training camp have been as big as I've ever seen in Bourbonnais with another solid showing for Wednesday's practice.
We'll see you Friday night at Soldier Field for Family Fest. Say hello if you see me!

Thunderstorms rolled through Bourbonnais as the Bears prepared for their final practice of training camp.
Thunderstorms rolled through Bourbonnais as the Bears prepared for their final practice of training camp, forcing the morning walk-through indoors and our interviews into the coffee shop. And as the players began filing in for lunch, there were two hot topics.

It's the eve of the Bears season. Well, the pre-season. It's also the birthday of Jay Cutler's first child - a boy - Camden Jack. Let the storybook season begin, right?

With one week before the first pre-season game against Denver, questions began to be asked about the offensive line… well, they've been asked all along, just today they were louder.

After Monday's off day, we tackled a long one at training camp. Starting in the Kitchen here at Olivet Nazarene University.
After Monday's off day, we tackled a long one at training camp. Starting in the Kitchen here at Olivet Nazarene University. Shout out to Jeff Hilligoss- the GM of Sodexo who talked us through preparation for 90 plus NFL players. Not a total shocker, but he said the lineman eat really well…"not just what's on their plates, but how many plates they clean". Ha!

With all due respect to Theo Epstein - football is better with pads on. Just sayin'! So for the second straight day, the Bears practiced with full pads.
