MADISON, Wis. (KMSP) -
Wisconsin Badgers running back and likely Heisman Trophy candidate Montee Ball was the victim of an "unprovoked assault" in Madison, Wis. early Wednesday, police said.
According to police, five men attacked Ball around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday on University Ave., a few blocks from the UW campus. The Badgers star was knocked to the ground and kicked several times.
Ball was hospitalized with head injuries.
"My concern right now is for Montee's health and well-being," Badgers head coach Bret Bielema said. "Montee has been released from the hospital and is under the care and supervision of our sports medicine staff. We will continue to evaluate him as we approach the start of fall camp this weekend. I do expect Montee to make a full recovery."
Montee Ball posted the following to Twitter on Wednesday: "I appreciate the support and thank you for the concerns.I will be okay! See you guys in September! #WiscONsin"
