Patients Rights in Hospital by Dr. Archelle Georgiou
When patients are in the emergency room, they are worried about getting the right care. But, Accretive Health, a company hired by Fairview and North MemorialHospitals, was worried about whether patients would pay their bills.
In April, Minnesota's State Attorney General Lori Swanson released a report showing that Accretive and its debt collectors used tactics that violated federal and state laws. On Monday, Accretive did not admit to wrongdoing but agreed to pay a $2.5 million to settle a federal lawsuit and also agreed to stop doing business in Minnesota by November andwon't be allowed to operate in the state for up to six years.
Fox Medical Expert, Dr. Archelle Georgiou, discusses how Accretive allegedly violated patients rights. She also gives viewers the bottom line on their patient right to read their medical chart and have a voice in their care.
