Interstate Highway 35W will be closed overnight from 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 31 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 as crews set beams for the new westbound Hwy 10/County Road 10 bridge over the interstate.
A signed detour will direct traffic to use I-694, Highway 252 and Highway 10.
Two other overnight closures of I-35W in the same area are tentatively scheduled to take place on Monday, Aug. 6 and Tuesday, Aug. 7 to allow crews to place beams for the eastbound bridge under construction to span the interstate. Traffic will use the same detour route for Monday and Tuesday's closure.
Construction of the new eastbound and westbound Highway 10/County Road 10 bridges crossing I-35W started late May and will be completed by November 2012.
Motorists may also encounter delays on both directions of I-35W as the roadway is reduced to two lanes between County Road C and I-694. The lanes will reopen each day by 5 a.m. through Aug. 9.
The lane closures are necessary as crews repair expansion joints on the segment of freeway. The lanes will reopen each day by 5 a.m. through Aug. 9.
The work is part of a larger project to repair joints at several locations throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area roadway.
