ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) -

There is always something to see or do at the Detroit Zoo and new attractions popping up. The latest attraction is the Boardwalk.

Patricia Janeway knows the Boardwalk pretty much better than anybody else. She is the communications director for the zoo.

So, what exactly is the Boardwalk?

"The Cotton Family Wetlands ... is a Michigan ecosystem, which represents native turtles, birds, frogs, fish ... and it's just a beautiful pond and wetland area," she explained. "We built this boardwalk so that people could really immerse themselves in the Michigan wetlands and really get close to nature."

"The minute you step on the Boardwalk, you're transported into this world. You see views of the zoo that you never saw before because you never had access, but now you walk on to the Boardwalk and it's so gorgeous."

What was used to make the Boardwalk?

"The product is called Trex, and it's a wood decking alternative. It's 95-percent recycled materials. It's made from recycled grocery bags and reclaimed hardwood."

And what's the reaction from people who are coming to check it out?

"People love this. They think it's so beautiful, and they're amazed. They walk on and it's just a whole new vista."
