Man killed in Linwood, Minn., house fire; cause unknown
LINWOOD, Minn. -
A two-story house in Linwood, Minn., was ruled a complete loss after dead after a Wednesday morning fire tore through the structure, killing at least one person.
Anoka County Cmdr. Paul Sommer confirmed that one man died after flames broke out on the 23800 block of Lyons Street Northeast.
Firefighters at the scene told FOX 9 the call came in at 3:50 a.m., but crews had trouble getting inside the home.
At 9:25 a.m., the man's body was found inside in the remains of the home. His identity has yet to be determined by the Anoka County Medical Examiner's Office.
Crews searched the debris and determined no other victims were inside.
The entire structure eventually collapsed. The cause and origin of the fire is not yet known, but the incident is under investigation by the Linwood Fire Department, the Anoka County Fire Investigation Team and the state fire marshal. The poor condition of house will make the investigation more complicated.
A neighbor at the scene told FOX 9 he saw the male homeowner just three times in the past seven years, and was surprised anyone even lived there since there were holes in the roof and the home was in disrepair.
"Much of it is burned," Sommer said. "It would appear that it's almost like a hoarding situation -- magazines, books, papers, things like that."
