It's been a hot summer. For those with air conditioning, the proof is in the electric bill. And for those without it, the proof is in those stifling sleepless nights.
So what can you do to cool your home without spending big money on hardware and utility bills? Matthew Grocoff, founder and host of GreenovationTV, has the following suggestions:
1. Smart Thermostats -- The NEST Thermostat takes the outdoor temperature and humidity and cools your home appropriately, even when you're not home. Plus, it can be controlled through on an app on your smart phone.
2. Ice Coolers -- Grocoff says if you're without air conditioning and need a blast of cool at night, you can rely on ice. Just fill a cooler with ice and blow a fan across the top towards your bed. The cool air from the melting ice should head your way.
3.Whole House Fans -- Grocoff says you can do it yourself for about $300. Learn how here.
Matthew also recommends logging on tobetterbuildingsformichigan.org for more information on how to finance any home improvements.
