DETROIT (WJBK) -
Careless smoking could be to blame for a 53-year-old man's death during an early morning apartment fire on Detroit's east side.
FOX 2's Al Allen reports Trennice Mallory was killed when fire broke out in his third floor studio apartment sometime around 2:45 a.m. at the Parker House Apartments, near Jefferson Avenue and Van Dyke Road.
Allen reports the smoke detector in Mallory's apartment was found on the floor without a battery.
Allen says the investigation surrounding the fire's cause continues this morning.
