DETROIT (WJBK) -

Metro Detroiters are uniting in signing a "Detroit Loves Aurora" banner, sending love, prayers and compassion.

"I want to have them have a blessing from the Lord to know that people are there praying for them and in their thoughts and prayers," said one person.

"I think it's a tragedy.  I feel bad for all the ones that suffered," another said.  "God bless you all, and you are in my prayers."

Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh came down to send his condolences from a city that knows all too well the daily heartbreak of gun violence.

"We understand tragedy here in Detroit.  Clearly nothing of this magnitude at one time, but little tragedies still have the same effect on you," he said.  "I just told them really to keep their heads up."

The banner is a Fox 2-Fresh 100.3 joint effort.  Wednesday morning it will be at the Detroit Zoo for the public to sign from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. From there, it will go the Mall at Partridge Creek inside the Parisian store.

On Thursday, the banner will be at Joey's Famous Philly Cheesesteaks in Southgate from 7 - 9 a.m. and at Community Choice Eastside with Renee Vitale from noon - 2 p.m.
