Flags in New York flew at half-staff Tuesday in honor of two soldiers from Fort Drum who died in Afghanistan last week.
Sgt. Daniel A. Rodriguez, 28, of Baltimore, and Sgt. Jose J. Reyes, 24, of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, died July 18, 2012, after their vehicle hot an improvised explosive device in Ghanzi City, the Pentagon said.
"I join with all New Yorkers in mourning the loss of Sergeant Reyes and Sergeant Rodriguez," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "I send my deepest sympathies to their families, friends, and fellow soldiers. We will honor the service of these two Fort Drum soldiers and we will be forever grateful for their dedication to our nation."
Rodriguez and Reyes were heavy vehicle drivers with the 110th Transportation Company, 548th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, based out of Fort Drum, which is in northern New York.

Among his awards and decorations are two Purple Hearts, the Army Commendation Medal, three Army Achievement Medals, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Combat Action Badge, and many more, the Army said.
Rodriguez left behind his wife, three children, and his mother.

His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, the Army Service Ribbon, the Combat Action Badge, and five Certificates of Achievements, the Army said.
