BRAINERD, Minn. (KMSP) -
A small aircraft crashed Sunday in Upper Whitefish Lake near Brainerd. The Federal Aviation Administration confirms one person was killed in the 10 a.m. crash.
The Crow Wing County sheriff's office says the pilot, a 55-year-old Crosslake man, died at the scene. The passenger, a 61-year-old Crosslake man, was taken to a Crosby hospital with serious injuries. FAA spokesman Roland Herwig in Oklahoma City says the experimental aircraft, a single-engine Skystar Kitfox 4 fixed-wing plane.
The aircraft is submerged nearly 75 yards offshore. The FAA is investigating, and will report the crash to the National Transportation Safety Administration.
The FAA website says the aircraft was amateur-built in 2008.
