Animals abandoned on N.J. side of George Washington Bridge

Wilma, a charming basset hound, was found wandering just feet from the George Washington Bridge. She is part of a heartbreaking trend that humane officers say most likely is due to shady rescue organizations.
The animals are often dropped at the same time each day in a handful of locations or hot spots that lead directly to the George Washington Bridge and back to New York.
Some of the dogs are well-groomed and have tags indication they had veterinary care in New York.
That has lead Bergen County Humane Enforcement to believe that people from New York City who no longer want the dogs are driving across the river to abandon then or give then to shady animal rescue groups who do the same thing.
Officer Vincent Ascolese said there are so many so-called doggie dumps that he is seeking donations through BCrescues.org for a new "no-kill" shelter where the dogs can stay until they new homes.

It's also the same price motorists were paying a year ago.The national average price also remained stable, coming in at $3.63 for the second straight week.
