The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is making an effort to educate the public on drowning prevention.

It wants to use events like a recent incident in which 2 children drowned in New Jersey after wandering from their home to neighbor's pool as a learning opportunity.

CPSC has a campaign called Pool Safely: Simple Steps Save Lives in an effort to reduce child drownings.

An average of 390 children 14 or younger drown each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and drowning is a leading cause of death for children under the age of five.

The campaign has its own website with safety tips.

On the week of July 22-July 29, the Pool Safely campaign will hold events around the US to promote water safety.
