BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KMSP) -
A semi hauling tortilla chips caught fire Monday afternoon on Interstate 494 near the Xerxes Avenue overpass.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the semi's brakes heated up and caught fire, spreading to the trailer.
Dark plumes of smoke wafted across both sides of the highway and onto the overpass above.
The Minnesota State Patrol said the driver was able to escape safely.
By 4:30 p.m., traffic in the area was still snarled, and the right-most lane remained closed while authorities worked to clean up after the flames were extinguished.
