Romney ‘looking at’ a woman for VP choice

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (KMSP) -

Mitt Romney might be thinking about picking a woman for his running mate this fall.

"We've been looking at that and I love that option as well," Ann Romney said in an interview with CBS News.

Romney's wife says she thinks the person selected as the vice presidential candidate on the Republican ticket should be "someone that obviously can do the job but will be able to carry through with some of the other responsibilities."

Mitt Romney wasn't as forthcoming as his wife, saying his VP choice is "something I'm keeping close with my team."

The Atlantic speculates these women could be on the Romney VP list:

  • New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte
  • Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson
  • South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley
  • New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez
  • Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman
  • Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorin
