Atlanta police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place on Tuesday morning outside a BP gas station. They say a man was shot after he pulled in to fill up with gas, and it appears he was truly innocent.
Investigators say it happened at the BP station at the corner of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and Bolton Road. Witnesses tell police the man pulled and got out of his car to fill up. That's when he was approached by a man, and police say the victim was forced back into his rental car.
Police say the victim was shot three times in the chest. They suspect the motive was likely robbery.
Officers have canvassed the area interviewing witnesses, many of whom were shaken by the incident.
Authorities said that the victim was a white male in his 60s, was from out of state, and had a plane ticket to leave Atlanta at 9:30 a.m.
The crime was not captured on surveillance tape. Investigators are working to produce a description of the suspect based on reports from witnesses.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact police.
