Georgia, Liberian ports extend trade partnership

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, Ga. -

Port officials from Georgia and Liberia are extending their two-year-old partnership to foster trade between the southeast U.S. and West Africa.

Officials from the Liberia National Port Authority signed an agreement, known as a memorandum of understanding, with the Georgia Ports Authority during a visit to Savannah on Friday.

The Savannah Morning News reports the signing extends the two-year-old agreement between the ports for another three years.

Both ports handle imports and exports from the two nations. Liberia ships metal goods, fruits and rubber into Savannah, which exports poultry, auto parts, clothing and construction equipment back to West Africa.
