Pool champ Jen Polik chats with Fox 2

"This year I've had five state championships, one international championship, one national championship, and I also got a second place on an international championship," said Jen Polik.

Not bad for someone who taught herself and didn't even pick up a pool stick until 1999.

"I started out waitressing at a pool hall and we used to get free pool," she said.  "I just kind of picked it up and I realized I really liked it."

"A lot of watching and learning.  I picked up a lot of different things from different people."

So, what's the key to being a good pool player?

"You have to have a mental frame of mind because you can go out and play and have fun or you can go out with a I want to win attitude."

But attitude could be her biggest attribute.  As a female on felt, she wants to increase women's standing in the game.

"Women are starting to take over.  Never underestimate a woman, especially with her own pool stick because she's going to get you."

Watch the Ryan Ermanni's video report to see how he faired against Polik in a game of pool.
