A Long Island man faces assault and several other charges after a series of crashes into police vehicles.
Nassau County police say the chain of events started at about 11:15 p.m. in Mineola.
Police say they pulled over Earl Perry, 26, of Amityville after seeing him drive erratically on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 43 in Syosset.
A highway patrol bureau officer stopped his Toyota at Exit 40.
Police say that Perry had a suspended driver's license and suspended registration plates.
They say he drove off and exited the Long Island Expressway onto Jericho Turnpike. He is accused of going through several red lights.
They say Perry then hit a police vehicle at Jay Court and Jericho Turnpike and drove eastbound on Jericho Turnpike striking the same police vehicle again.
Police say Perry then placed his vehicle in reverse and struck another police vehicle.
On Rudolph Court, police say Perry again placed his car in reverse and hit a police vehicle.
They say he then jumped out of his car and ran away. Police eventually found him an arrested him.
One police officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of neck and back injuries.
