ROSEVILLE, Minn. (AP) - Delegates to the Minnesota Independence Party's political convention opted not to endorse a candidate for U.S. Senate this year.
The state's third party held its convention Saturday in Roseville. Delegates passed resolutions opposing the definition of marriage and voter ID amendments on the November ballot.
But two candidates vying for the party endorse to run against Democratic incumbent Amy Klobuchar and Republican Kurt Bills both fell short. Accountant Glen Menze and farmer Stephen Williams are likely to compete in the August primary for the party's slot on the election ballot.
IP leaders say they're more focused this year on electing candidates to the state Legislature. About a dozen candidates are running for the party around the state, and party leaders say it's their best shot at keeping the party vital.
