STOCKHOLM -- Swedish police stepped in to help a little girl after she lost her favorite teddy bear while walking in Stockholm.

Tyra Blomqvist dropped the cuddly toy in Kungsholmen, west Stockholm, on Tuesday last week, and her mom put up posters across the city, Nyheter24 reported.

The posters were spotted by an off-duty police officer, who uploaded it to the official Sodermalm Police Federation Facebook page.

The girl's mom, Kristin, told the news website, "The teddy bear really means a lot to her. She can't sleep properly at night without it, and she searches for it when she wakes in the morning."

Since the poster was uploaded to the Facebook page, 500 people have "liked" it, and it has been shared more than 100 times.

But some criticized the use of police time to track down the missing teddy bear.

Sodermalm police said the officer was off-duty at the time.

The missing toy has not yet been found.
