Brother Ali among 13 arrested at ‘Occupy Homes’ foreclosure protest

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Brother Ali, arguably the most familiar name on the Minneapolis hip hop scene, was among 13 people arrested Thursday at a foreclosure protest.

Early Thursday morning, Occupy Homes MN demonstrators established themselves at 4404 Cedar Avenue in south Minneapolis in support of foreclosed homeowners Alejandra and David Cruz.

Ali Newman, aka Brother Ali, was one of 13 participants arrested for trespassing. Newman posted $50 cash bail and was released from the Hennepin County Jail after booking.

Occupy Homes MN says PNC has acknowledged the foreclosure of the Cruz home was due to a bank error. The home is now owned by Freddie Mac.
