MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -
The Minneapolis City Council zoning committee has denied the rezoning of a property at 27th Street and Lyndale Avenue for a Trader Joe's grocery store and attached liquor store.
The committee directed staff to write-up findings of fact for adoption by the full city council. The vote will go before the Minneapolis City Council on Friday, June 29.
The zoning committee historically sides with the opinion of the local councilmember -- in this, Meg Tuthill, who on principle opposes rezoning in the interest of a single business.
The Minneapolis Planning Commission had unanimously approved the rezoning requirement needed for Trader Joe's to include its beer and wine shop within the plans.
The proposed 14,299 sq. ft. Trader Joe's includes an approximately 1,200 sq. ft. beer and wine store.
