MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -
Downtown Minneapolis light rail transit service will be shut down and replaced by buses this weekend.
The timing couldn't be worse, as it coincides with the Twin Cities Pride festival, which brought more than 400,000 people to the city last year. But in fairness to Metro Transit, there's never really a "good" weekend for road construction or transit disruptions.
Planned construction and maintenance work will close light rail through downtown Minneapolis from about 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 22 through 3:30 a.m. on Monday, June 25.
During that time, Route 55 buses will replace trains between the Target Field station and Franklin Ave. station. Light rail trains will operate normally elsewhere along the Hiawatha line.
Buses will run more frequently than trains, but bus trips will take longer than the usual train rides. Riders should plan accordingly.
