The season came a bit early this year, but you won't hear any complaints. This year's crop of local strawberries is excellent, says Bill Jacobson of Pine Tree Apple Orchard. M.A. Rosko takes us to the White Bear Lake orchard's 20 acres of strawberry fields. You can purchase pre-picked berries for about 3.85/lb. or pick your own for about $1.95/lb.
In either case, they taste way different from the ones in the store—because these are actually a different type of berry, bred to be eaten fresh, not shipped far distances.
