ANGRAAN, Sweden -- A Swedish man was garnering worldwide attention Thursday after his late-night pee in the wild was interrupted by a bear chasing an elk -- with the dramatic events captured on video.
Last Sunday, Ola Akesson, 61, had emerged from his summer cabin in Angraan nature reserve in northeast Sweden to relieve himself in a stream when he spotted an elk nearby, news website The Local reported.
Akesson called out to his wife to shoot video of the elk.
Just as she hit the record button on her iPad, she noticed a bear rampaging towards Akesson.
"Look out Ola -- a bear is coming!" Akesson's wife is heard screaming in the video, followed by a stream of Swedish swear words.
"Are you stupid? Run, for god's sake!" she shrieked as she continued to film the unfolding drama.
The video shows the pot-bellied 61-year-old, wearing black briefs, scrambling to get away as the bear comes charging in his direction.
"I turned around and there was a huge bear right beside me -- maybe half a meter [1.6 feet] away, I could have reached out and touched it -- but I didn't even have time to think," Akesson said.
The bear knocked over an outdoor ornament before disappearing into the woods. The couple said they believed it had been after the elk.
Akesson said despite the incident, he had no plans to install an indoor toilet at the summer property, calling the incident a "one in a million."
